Evaluations
The Maine Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing/Governor Baxter School for the Deaf provides comprehensive evaluation services from a multidisciplinary team of highly trained professionals including American Sign Language Specialists, Educational Audiologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Physical Therapists and Teachers of the Deaf. Evaluations assess all domains of the life of a child, including academic, physical, cognitive, language, communication and transition. Our team of highly qualified professionals conduct evaluations following the principles below.
- Evaluations are administered in the student’s primary language or mode of communication. If the child communicates in both ASL and English a Deaf/hearing team of specialists collaborate to evaluate both languages
- Evaluators utilize technically sound instruments which are reliable and valid for the purpose for which the assessment tool was designed.
- Our team of professionals is adept at adapting evaluation tools and with careful interpretation that will yield qualitative information to help guide decisions related to student services.
- Evaluations are provided and interpreted with multi-disciplined team members
